Here's some things basic things you should know about Frosh Week at Acadia (and you'll probably hear these more than once)...
- Be safe! Don't walk home alone. Be in groups when possible, and ALWAYS with another person! Acadia has an awesome shuttle service called U-HALL that will come and get you no matter where you are. There's also a Walk Home service; just call Campus Security, and they'll be happy to walk you home.
- The legal drinking age in Nova Scotia is 19. Don't bother trying to get into the Axe (Acadia's campus bar) if you're not 19. Acadia's a fun campus; there's always something else going on, so you really don't need to go to the bar... besides, the penalties for being caught in the bar under aged can get pretty nasty.
- Respect the drinking policies that the RA's will tell you in the first couple days, cuz there's serious consequences (fines, Judicial Board, even getting kicked out of Barrax) if you don't.
- Listen to your RA's...they may be your age, but they have a whole lot more power than you do!
- Take care of your laptops! Throwing them out a window may seem fun at the time, but it's really not worth it in the long run. Keep any kind of food or drink well away from your computer. Don't decorate it with stickers, always carry them in a laptop bag, and don't leave it anywhere! Also, that little internet cable you get costs a whole wack of money, and it's very fragile, so just be careful.
- Take care of your keys, and bring them wherever you go. I lost mine in the first day, and it cost me $50 to get them replaced! It sucks to get locked out of your room, so always bring your keys!
- Lock your door whenever you leave the room. Getting your computer stolen is no fun, and neither is having your underwear strung across the courtyard.
If you're worried about Frosh Week, don't be! You don't have to be super-outgoing to meet a ton of people, you almost can't help but meet just about everyone in the building! If any activity during Frosh Week makes you feel at all uncomfortable, you are by no means obliged to participate. Just relax and have fun; you'll be glad you came!
